Works-in-Progress

I'm posting a few works in progress from a class I'm taking with Suzi Blu called the Goddess and the Poet. It's been great fun.

More Like It

The weather over the last week or so has been more like summer. It's not hot by any extent of the imagination but I'll take what the weather gods are giving us. Temps have been lingering in the mid to high 70's with one or two days in the low 80's. It's more or less like May weather than weather indicative of July in New England. But I'm not complaining - it sure beats day after day of rain and dark and looming clouds.

One thing for sure is the clouds in the sky have been incredibly dramatic. Vast mountainous thunder clouds and mist so eerie it looks contrived.

Moments after this picture was taken the clouds and mist from the left engulfed us leaving us in heavily misted air. We got into the car and drove down the road for about 5 minutes and we were back in summer again. This weather hung over the extreme edge of the sea coast - how unlucky for those who were trying to enjoy the waters edge. Oh, and the water is freezing - hasn't had any sun rays to warm it up for months.

Finally Done!

I' finally finished my petite doll! I took a Suzi Blu workshop in April - it took me some time to finish because of a lack of inspiration and a whole list of other issues such as indecisiveness and fear of screwing up but, it's done! What a relief it is to complete something that has been haunting me for such a long time. I'm pretty satisfied with it - of course there are things I would do different but I'm happy with it and that pleases me.

This is Summer Angel. I think I'll make a series of four- Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring.

First Day Of Summer

Summer? Really!

These gray skies are getting me down.
It has become as bothersome as a knat
that hovers around ones head.
I can't stop thinking about it.

I looked forward to spring and summer
every winter - I fantasize about living
in tropical far off places where the weather
is predictable. When the back drop of my
life is dreary, cold and damp I become "it" dreary, cold and damp. Why is this such an affliction? I have to prepare myself to call this summer a 'wash' and move on.

Tag Book From Tag Swap

I received the tag book from the tag swap last week, or was it the week before, and didn't have time to take photographs of it until a day or two ago. It's quite a lovely thing with ribbons and lace and uniquely individual tags from members of Nancey's Art Dolls.

Originally Nancey wanted 20 women to participate but we ended up with 16 and from the 16 who signed up for the swap only 11 women came through with tags. Nancey compiled the tags and fabricated the covers from sewn together fabric and brick-a-brack. I love the final product and can think of a million and one uses and themes. Have a look!

Inspiration

It has been days since I posted here. I'm lacking inspiration I'm afraid. It has been rainy and dreary and cold and all I want to do is bundle up and stay inside. We have had a few sunny days but they are far and few between and I am beginning to think my inspiration coincides with the weather broadcast . Cold rainy no inspiration vs. sunny warm no problem! Why? Seasonal affected disorder - I don't think so - it's spring time or maybe it isn't because it has been so cold and rainy here one would think this is spring in Alaska.

Anyway I did make a new card with no image on it which was easy-sneasy but the most progress I made was taking pictures of my little works of art. I didn't post words but I was busy snapping pictures with the digital in search of the perfect picture - and I think I did it. Take a look at my new ATC pictures - I'm in love with them all over again. I would say that it took a couple of hours to get it right this time. I'm happy I persisted.

Sale!

I've sold two bracelets, one pair of earrings and a miniature painting this weekend! I thank God for my sister who has been like a sales person for me extolling the uniqueness of my wares to all of her friends. I can use the money because I've been partially employed now since 2005 and times have been tough. Thanks Jocelyn!

Note to self: buy more clasps and ear wires to make more earrings and beaded-bead bracelets. Take pictures of your jewelry and art and develop and ETSY site.

Artist Trading Cards

I'm in love! Who would ever imagine a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch surface would be so perfect. I've been creating little mixed media paintings with Cherrios card board boxes (I've been using the boxes for my tags as well). I use black gesso and white gesso - glue down collage images and paint on them. Most of my little paintings are of the angelic sort as well as real life people (my daughter) and cats (our pets). These are some of my very first artist trading cards - I've already traded 3 of them with other women.
I have several others that I'll photograph and share. Till then Cheers!

Tagalishous!

I've been wanting to do this for some time now but have been scatterbrained and busy. But here I am and here I go.

I'm here for a couple of reasons and the biggest one is a need to create an outlet that will allow me to talk and show my arty bits and pieces. I'm also here because of one person and she is Suzi Blu. I followed Suzi Blu from YouTube where she posted videos of herself creating art along with inspirational messages like, "you are worthy". I followed her quirky videos for a while before joining her ning site - since then I've joined other art sites on ning and have found a huge well of inspiration.

To clarify it's not like I haven't been creating art ever it's more like gaining ones confidence to take it seriously and continuing to do what I love to do. It's like being granted permission to have a flight of fancy and in doing so somehow you end up loving yourself more for it - which makes me love the world more.

I made a series of 16 tags for an art swap on Nancy's Art Dolls. I call them "real life dolls".
